Our Award-Winning Band Program, under the direction of Bryan Swenland, is a beneficial part of the Mountainside Middle School elective curriculum.  Not only do students learn the necessary skills to be polished musicians, but they also learn how to be responsible and successful citizens. The three concert bands and two jazz bands service many students every year in this most important activity that is guaranteed to shape their lives in only the most positive ways.

Mountainside Orchestra students continue to learn more advanced playing skills on their instrument. Most students are pursuing their fourth and fifth years of learning their instrument. Students are introduced to shifting positions, starting vibrato, more advanced scales, and of course more advanced level performance skills. Students also participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festival, EWMEA Large group Orchestra Festival, and a music competition at Music In the Parks –Silverwood at the end of the school year. This orchestra has a reputation of very fine performances in each venue!
