“Meaningful Learning starts with enthusiasm.”
The bronze sculpture in our courtyard promotes this idea. Created by Dr. John P. Jewell, the sculpture is of a middle school student who is excited to be here: his hands held high and a joyful expression on his face. He has everything he needs to be successful as a student, including a smile on his face.
The lines of our courtyard lead toward the bronze sculpture. When you enter the courtyard you immediately see the symbolism of the lines of our lives leading toward our children and the lines of the children going out into the community and beyond.
The plaque on the statue reads “Meaningful learning starts with your enthusiasm, character counts.” His quote meshes our mission statement, “meaningful learning,” and our school’s commitment to the six pillars of character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
